Overview

Baldwin is trying to avoid its first winless, tieless season since going 0-9 in 1954, according to football historian Stacy Kaneshiro. The Lunas can clinch the MIL D-I title and state berth with a win — they won the first meeting 42-0. Lahainaluna is first in MIL team offense and defense, Baldwin is last in both.

Bears at a glance

Baldwin has settled on sophomore Antone Sanches at QB, and he has made strides during this rebuilding season. He is fifth in MIL passing. Joseph Randolph is eighth in MIL rushing and averages 13.5 yards per catch.

Lunas at a glance

At 7-0 overall, the Lunas are pushing for a bye in the D-I state tournament. Lyric Kahula is third in MIL passing as fellow quarterback Noa Gordon recovers from injury. Kaulana Tihada and Ian-Jay Cabanilla are Nos. 5-6 in MIL rushing.

Quotable

“It would be nice to have those guys back, but if not the players that we have now understand their role and that’s the reason they’re here — it’s next man up. I think they’re prepared for that challenge.”

— Dean Rickard, Lunas co-head coach on his team’s injury situation

Overview

The Warriors can nail down the MIL D-II second-round title with a win, which would guarantee a playoff game at King Kekaulike on Oct. 29. The Sabers are playing their final game, looking to send 20 seniors out on a high note. The Sabers are third on offense, second on defense; the Warriors are fourth in both.

Sabers at a glance

Maui High has recorded five defensive shutouts this season. Joe Cariaga is second in MIL passing, No. 7 in MIL rushing. Piercen Evans leads the league in rushing. Keoni James Ihu-Rodrigues and Braden Albrecht are Nos. 4-5 in receiving.

Warriors at a glance

Makana Kamaka-Brayce leads the league in passing — his 10 scoring passes are one less than the rest of the league combined. Frank Abreu, Po’o Aiu, Heno Stone-Han and Dylan Schnitzer are 1-2-3-6 in receiving.

Quotable

“What we’re pushing for is next week and make sure our seniors get out of here on a really good note. Kamehameha is really tough and we will work on that this week. … We want to get more of the kids involved.”

— Aylett Wallwork, Maui High head coach last week
